W. E. B. Du Bois (1868 - 1963) was an American sociologist, historian and Civil Rights Activist. A co-founder of the NAACP and graduate of Harvard. His publication of The Philadelphia Negro, the philosophy of double consciousness in Souls of Black Folk and coining the phrase The Talented Tenth were groundbreaking intellectual study of the black community in the United States. A committed Pan-Africanist, he demonstrated an unwavering campaign for global peace and justice. He died in Ghana at the age of 95. Notable works: Philadelphia Negro, Dark Princess, Black Reconstruction in America, Dusk of Dawn, Souls of Black Folks.
