Fred Hampton (1948 - 1969) was a national leader who in his short life had an outsized impact in the fight for human rights in America. He was Vice-Chair of the Panther Party and founder of the "Rainbow Coalition" in Chicago. He was killed in a hail of more than 100 bullets as federal and state law enforcement raided his home while he was sleeping after drugging him. A court ordered the government to pay restitution 10 years after his unlawful death. Though his voice was silenced prematurely, his spirit lives on as a symbol of resilience and courage. The movie "Judas and the Black Messiah" chronicled his life.
